Ready to tell your story?
You've been in the audience for years.
Whether at Listen To Your Mother shows or other live stage readings.
You love it. You tear up, you crack up, you get the chills. And you always leave changed from the stories you just heard.
But with every show, there's this gnawing feeling when you walk away:
I want to be up there too.
On stage. Telling my story.
But you quickly erase the thought because that's crazy talk. You've never done anything like that. Writing is one thing, but telling your story on stage...let's save that for the professionals.
Can we tell you a secret?
Pretty much every person on the Listen To Your Mother stage had that same thought at one time. Until they pushed past it, and did it anyways.
You ready to be one of them?

From Page To Stage: A Live Writing Workshop
Write a Personal Essay that Will Captivate an Audience
Learn. Write. Perform.
In this 3-hour in-person workshop, learn how to craft a personal essay for the stage.
We’ll cover:
- The differences between a well-crafted personal essay and an anecdote or blog post.
- The necessary ingredients of a personal essay
- Brainstorming topics and distilling ideas
- How to make connections with your reader
- The importance of creating scenes
- What is your story really about?
- How to make your writing stand out
- The balance of showing and telling, and why it becomes even more important when reading your piece on stage
-
The difference between a piece of writing that reads better on paper versus one that comes alive when read aloud
STEP 1: LEARN HOW
We'll start with the basics. What is the structure of an essay? What do I write about? How long should it be? We will teach you everything you need to know to write an essay crafted for an audience. And then we'll give you the checklist you need to get started...
STEP 2: WRITE IT!
If you've ever had a problem motivating yourself to write, we've got the anecdote: Write in a room surrounded by other women writing too. Yes, we will actually spend time writing the first draft of your pieces in the workshop.
STEP 3: PERFORM IT
After you've got the beginnings of your essay, we will reconvene for revision, editing, feedback, and sharing. We've got the stage ready for you to stand on. So we're going to use it.
*Note: We will never force you to read on stage if you're not ready. You do what your comfort level allows.
Who Is This Workshop For?
- The woman whose stories live only inside her head and private journals
- The dabbler who's taken a few writing courses but feels intimidated by publication
- The blogger who's not sure what next step to take
- The published author who feels stuck and needs some inspiration and accountability
- The writer who's always dreamed of telling her stories on stage
